Before the hike, we made a stop at the Stevenson Off Leash Dog Park because it was right next to the store where we bought our Discovery Pass (you'll need this for the hike or they will ticket you). Sage found two balls.
And Mr. N took it away.
Then we headed to Beacon Rock which is the core of a volcano and 848 feet at the summit. It's about a mile to the summit with all the switchbacks.
Mr. N doesn't approve of rest breaks while hiking.
At the summit! He perched on a rock while we waited for Sage.
Both dogs wore their cooling vests. Mr. N probably would have been fine without his but Sage definitely needed hers.
A little bird dropped by to say hello.
As did this chipmunk. Mr. N didn't see this one but we saw one on our way up and he was definitely thinking of jumping off the ledge for it. Because terriers have a double dose of prey drive and are utterly lacking in survival instincts.
You can see the little specks of fishing boats on the river.
A fabulous hike with a rewarding view at the end! Hope you had fun!

Looks extremely exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteLots of Woofs from Earl and I at Earl's World!
Wow, that looks like a great hike - you were up pretty high. I'm glad only your head fit through those rails! Thanks for joining the Hop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the tour. What a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a beautiful spot. Love the view!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful hike! Looks like everyone had a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to hike...the views are spectacular! I'm a bit afraid of heights though and not sure I'd be able to handle some of those steep drop-offs! LOL

Oh wow! That's so pretty! What kind of cooling vest does Mr. N wear? I have an old one, but I bet they have better technology these days!

It's the Cool Vest from Gramercy. It fits him very well. I did a post on it last week.

Wonderful views! Looks like a great place to hike. I would also like to know about the cooling vests.
ReplyDeleteI did a post on it last week. Mr. N is wearing the Cool Vest and Sage is wearing a vest from Ruffwear.

Barley also likes to walk on the wild side! That dog will hop up on any rock she can find--even if it's high enough that she's not exactly sure how to get back down without my help. We constantly have to chat about not being dangerous. Luckily, she's also really good when I tell her to wait, so stairs and hills aren't nearly as scary as they could be with her adventurousness. I'm glad that you had such a beautiful hike!
ReplyDeleteMr. N likes to hop up on things too but he's much easier to lift down!
DeleteHi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to settle for your pictures...my Human has vertigo and won't even go near the edge of our yard at the mountain house. She even gets annoyed if my Human Papa or I go too close...and I love to stand on the edge and peer down over the ledge.
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
This is definitely not a hike for people who aren't comfortable with heights. Maybe your human papa can take you one day.
DeleteBeautiful photos, and a wonderful day. I've thought about getting those cooling vests for our summer adventures.
ReplyDeleteI find them to be pretty handy. The main problem we have that is that Mr. N starts bursting with energy once he gets cooled down and I'm still hot lol.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to hike. I might have to put my fear of walking on places with ledges for that scenery.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun - I bet Mr N walked so close to the edge only to tease you *waggy tail*
