FitDog Friday #40 - The Rose Garden at Peninsula Park

Portland is known as the City of Roses and roses we have in abundance! I read somewhere that supposedly we have perfect rose growing weather. The International Rose Test Garden is a tourist attraction but I prefer the rose garden at Peninsula Park

It is Portland's first public rose garden and has nearly 9,000 traditional rose plantings. The fountain which is over one hundred years old is a big draw during the summer and children like to splash in it.

From this angle, it reminds me of the Queen's rose garden from Alice in Wonderland. Good thing no one needs to paint the roses red!

Mr. N is still disgruntled with me for dipping him in the fountain to cool him off. In my defense, it was a pretty hot day and he was panting quite a bit.

Eventually, he got over it and decided that the column made an excellent sunning spot.

This variety of rose is called "summer dream." Pretty fitting, I think.

Even though we're not that far from the garden, we don't make it over there very often but I'm glad we did this time. It's the perfect way to while away a summer afternoon.

Also Mr. N is now on instagram. Follow him to see all of his shenanigans.

  1. That is beautiful! I am still scared of roses since I got my long ears wrapped around and stuck on the thorns as a young pup. It was painful! Thanks for joining FitDog Friday!

    1. That sounds painful! Mr. N likes to mark on things with thorns because he is a crazy little dog.

  3. What a pretty walk location! Love that Instagram video too - we've been working on the "push a cart" trick with Kelinn and he's just about got it.

    1. We should have a cart-a-thon race and see who is faster! We're probably visiting Michigan again this winter.

  4. What a pretty park! We also have a kid's shopping cart I'm teaching Rocco to push. He's a wee bit short for it but he can lean on it and push. Your cart looks like a better height.

    1. You'll have to post a video! How tall is Rocco? Mr. N is about eleven inches, I think.

I think I should have filmed some of the bloopers. It was a pretty funny process training Mr. N. At first, he thought I wanted him to sit in the cart because that's what I usually ask for with boxes. And I kept being like no, you're supposed to be doing the manual labor, not me! And then he kept tilting the cart over deliberately (it's a little top heavy).

  7. You have so many beautiful places to visit where you live! I think a little dip in the fountain never hurt anyone, especially if you need to cool off!
Mr. N has so many talents - loved the little video!
