FitDog Friday #43 - Dog Push-ups

You're interrupting my push-ups. Now I have to start counting again!
On a more serious note, does anyone have recommendations for a visibility vest? Mr. N's fur blends in with sand and dirt and yellowed grass which makes him hard to spot. Add fog to the mix and it's a wonder I see him at all. I put his cooling vest on him (despite the slight chill) just so I could keep track of where he was.

Someone suggested a bright collar but I don't think that's going to cut it. You can barely see his collar as it is normally. Mr. N has a lot of fluff.

I'm also getting my wisdom tooth out today so comments on other blogs may be sporadic and/or not entirely lucid. You were warned!

  1. Love that push up pic! So cute! We are on leash except for in fenced areas, but last week at the dog park, we needed a 6 ft flag tied to my sister. She kept disappearing into the tall weeds and we couldn't see her! Thanks for joining FitDog Friday. Good luck with the tooth, doesn't sound like a good way to start the weekend.

  2. Hi Y'all!

Get one of the orange vests they put on hunting dogs so they can be spotted...or, if, unlike my Human, you can sew, make him one. I have a bright red life saving vest to wear on the boat. They make some for little dogs.

My Human says a little Velcro and some bright material of your choice may solve the problem.

    Y'all come by now,

  3. Mr. N really does blend in to the scenery! I think Hawk had a great idea....we have had the orange vests and also orange bandanas for our dogs when walking during hunting season around here. If you don't sew, you can find them at Cabela's and other outdoor sporting goods stores.
Good luck with your wisdom tooth, that is no fun!

  4. I wish I had suggestions for a vest! Barley doesn't have visibility problems (plus, she doesn't like to leave my side), but we definitely have the collar issue. I get her the cutest collars and nobody ever sees them because she has so much fluff around her neck! Maybe if a bandana wouldn't get in the way of serious playtime, that could be a solution?

  5. Mom Kim here - I would think something about that same color would be good - maybe a neon blue or yellow or maybe even orange. I rarely take mine hiking (no real good places close and I can't drive) so walks are limited to our neighborhood :( . But I understand what you are saying - he does blend in and then if the grasses are very tall, that would be even worse. Maybe someone else would be of more help.

  6. I agree with Hawk, something neon like they use for hunting dogs - maybe not a vest as that might be too hot, but a harness? He does blend right in. Thanks for joining the Hop - good luck at the dentist.

  7. That's a great question. We have the same blending in issue and collars don't show up. Bandanas don't work for us either, getting tangled in Rocco's fur. I like the hunting vest idea. Good luck with your teeth! I had mine pulled a million years ago. I remember eating lots of soft food and loosing about 10 pounds! Yikes! I was in college at the time so I thought that was pretty cool.

  10. I think that cooling vest looks (and works) great.

We have a similar problem at night. My black dog disappears. I put little lights on my dogs' collars so I can see who's who and where at night.

  11. We use blaze orange collars for the dogs so I can't help you with a vest. I know they have them for upland dogs but I am not sure whether they would have them small enough for Mr. N. Maybe check here:

Hope the teeth extraction went well.

  12. Kilo always on a leash but has a bright red halter and orange and red bandanas as he does not like vests or jackets. Hope you feel better fast from your wisdom teeth. Pug Hugs
