Even though he's never tired, he does expend a lot of energy so he gets fed a lot of snacks on the trail. I look for healthy, meat-based, grain-free and portable treats. I tried out Primal Buffalo Liver Chunks Dry Roasted Dog Treats from Chewy.com when we were hiking Angel's Rest.
Mr. N is a definite fan and they rank in his second tier of treats after cheese and meat that I cook for him (and yes, he is extremely picky!).
I approve of the treats because they are made from US-sourced buffalo with no added salt and sugar or preservatives and they're a single ingredient treat. My only qualm is that they are not as easily breakable as I would like. They do break up but not into tiny, tiny pieces and some pieces are harder to break than others.
I used them to call him away from chipmunks at the summit. He really wanted to go after them.
And to remind him that he shouldn't go jumping off cliffs.
And as a reward for climbing through the boulder field.
We also saw a lot of wildflowers.
And a waterfall.
But Mr. N could care less. He says bring on the liver and the chipmunks. What do you take for your dogs to snack on the trail?
Chewy.com provided us with the liver treats. Tenacious Little Terrier was not compensated for this review post. All opinions expressed are our own.
What a great place for a hike. Love the expression in the second photo!
ReplyDeleteI think he's telling me hand over the treats and no one gets hurt.
DeleteThose look like great treats and you sure have a nice place to hike.
ReplyDeleteYou look like you are going to get blown right off that rick in the first photo - be careful Mr.N.!
ReplyDeleteHe does look like another good gust of wind would send him flying, doesn't he?
DeleteLook at that wind! Be careful out there Mr.N :)
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteOh that sure was a beautiful hike!
My Human takes Fruitables for me so she can watch my calories. We're all watchin' our weight and need to exercise to keep it under control.
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Mr. N runs chronically underweight so he needs lots of protein.
DeleteWhat beautiful places you find to take Mr. N. and I for one am grateful that you take lot's of photos to share with us. I don't go hiking as a rule so I really don't take snacks with me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like them. We have fun.
DeleteThat's one of my very favorite hikes. The views are just amazing, aren't they? Thanks for snapping some shots! I'll need to take the dogs over there ASAP.
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness, Mr. N. So close to the edge. Mom had a heat attack just looking at the pictures of this hike. My favorite treats for special occasions are also from Chewy.com. They're freeze dried chicken chunks. Yum!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Barley gets lots of different types of snacks on the trails because she gets bored quickly and will quit responding to me if I don't have something new to offer her. We've tried the Primal Venison Lung Puffs--Barley's a big fan, but I had to cut them up with a knife before we took them anywhere to make them small enough to be rewards in class or on the trail.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs! We like to make up a "trail mix" if we're going to be hiking more than an hour--dried sweet potatoes, roasted or freeze dried lung, and a dash of yogurt drops.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a difficult choice between snacks from your mom or a chipmunk for a snack. Sure looks like you had a great time on your hike.
ReplyDeleteWow! That view is spectacular! And those snacks sound good too. I usually bring some sort of high protein treat for Rocco and some of his kibble too. He'll eat pretty much anything!
ReplyDeleteWe love single ingredient treats, and haven't tried any buffalo ones yet, so we might just give these ones a go! As always, your backdrop is spectacular & makes for a pawfect review location!!
ReplyDeleteYikes....Mr. N isn't scared of heights, is he? (I only say that because I am!) That looks like a beautiful hike, and the perfect treats for the trail. We haven't tried those but have liked some of Primal's other treats....very good quality.
