We're leaving on a red eye to travel to the Midwest. With any luck, Mr. N will sleep peacefully through the flight. Wish us luck!

The majority of children who meet Mr. N have no idea whatsoever how to greet dogs properly. They run up to him yelling "puppy" ...
Good luck and have fun!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and have fun! Sleep tight Mr N!
ReplyDeleteNever flown with a dog but if I was going too I'd really make sure they are tired enough to sleep the whole way. Glad everything went welll!
ReplyDeleteI did take him for a long walk before!
DeleteI am too big to sit with Mom. She refuses to put me in with the checked luggage, so her flying days are over. Road trip!
ReplyDeleteLove and licks,
Cupcake
I wouldn't put Mr. N in cargo unless the situation was desperate either (moving internationally etc).
DeleteI flew under the seat from the UK to Germany when I was 9 weeks old. I howled from the moment I got to the airport until the plane took off, and then again on landing. Mom was a wreck from my howling but everyone still loved me. Katie and I had to fly from Amsterdam to Chicago when we moved back to the US in cargo. It was harder on Mom than it was on us I think. We all made it. Enjoy the midwest...if you are near me in MN, make sure and leave some peemail!
ReplyDeleteWe're not in your state but if we ever are, Mr. N will be sure to drop you a note!
DeleteI'm always interested to hear experiences of flying with dogs. Mine are both too big to fly passenger and I would never fly them in cargo, but someday I'd love to have a dog I could fly with. I'm glad you and Mr. N. had a safe trip!
ReplyDeleteThere are definite perks to having a cabin-sized dog. I wouldn't want my dog in cargo either!
DeleteHave fun Mr. N! I have not flown wit any pets before, so I have no tips. That does sound crazy... I think I would have given that guy a weird look probably LOL.
ReplyDeleteI imagine it would not go well with most pets!
DeleteGoodness! You are braver than I am. I haven't flown with my dogs yet and because they are big they would have to go in cargo, which I would never do. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe only way I will fly with them if they have a seat on the plane right next to me. LOL
They wanted Mr. N to walk through security on his own without his leash? MOUSES! Crazy, that is. Crazier than a squirrel making nut pies kind of crazy, for sure. We hear stuff about dogs getting loose - AND LOST - at airports too often, as it is. Requests like this explain a lot. No peep should ever be asked to remove a doggy's collar in a strange place, full of stranger peeps, noises and confusion. That's asking way too much, for sure.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
Seville
The metal on the collar will make the machine beep. That's what I was thinking! Way too many stories of pets getting lost at airports as it is.
DeleteGlad you made it there safely!! Have a great trip!

So glad you got there safely and that Mr. N did OK! Hope you have a great time!
ReplyDeleteJan & the crew at Wag 'n Woof Pets
Glad to hear you made it okay! And phew on the other TSA person there to set the first one straight! Have a great trip!!
ReplyDeleteMr. N would follow me through because he is a little velcro doggie but I can see a lot of dogs bolting in that situation!
DeleteI've flown a lot - one time I even had to get a pat down wif momma!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys made it okay... I always recommend that when people fly with their pets to take them a chew for take offs and landings so their ears can adjust to the change in pressure. Riley is so used to flying now that she knows how to pop her ears, but a lot of dogs may not know this and experience some discomfort.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, without a collar and lead? Gah! That could've ended so badly! I'm glad the other TSA agent corrected him! Whenever I flew with small dogs they would have me put the carry bag through the machine along with the collar and lead and carry the dog through the detector. Now that I have big dogs, whenever they fly they have to go cargo, unfortunately. I recommend Go Pro cameras. They are inexpensive and small. The newest model is super small. Just an added insurance policy. Hope your trip is fun!
ReplyDeleteHope that you enjoy your time in the midwest! Barley and I just got back to that region, too; we were so happy to be back in 70 degree weather after having a couple weeks in the south. I've never flown with Barley, but when I flew with Soth a few years ago, they had me hold him (no problem with his collar on) while his carrier went through the scanner and then we walked through the metal detector. Glad you didn't have to let Mr. N walk through without his collar!
