The rainy season in Portland means that Mr. N is a soggy shivering little dog no matter how many layers of water-proof clothing he wears. After he gets his paws (and sometimes belly) washed, he gets a quick towel dry and then a warm snack.

I don't believe in warming up raw food so he usually gets warmed up canned food. Right now, he's eating
Weruva Steak Frites with Beef, Pumpkin & Sweet Potatos in Gravy from Chewy.com for his cold winter snack.

Weruva with added water |
He laps it right up and leaves a clean bowl. He stops shivering. The extra calories are good for him too. He expends a lot of calories keeping warm during the rainy months.
Do you give your dogs special warm food during the cold season?
Sometimes on the weekend we get eggs which are still warm when they hit our bowls, but other than that, just the regular room temp. stuff. It is rare for us to freeze, but you little guys are very different.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he doesn't have an undercoat like you guys!
DeleteWell, we don't really have a cold season here, but we do usually add hot water to their food anyways so they get a nice warm meal everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice they get warm meals!
DeleteMom will surprise sometimes with some warm kibble! That looks so yummy, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteOh that does look yummy!
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
There is nothing like a big bowl of soup on a cold day! Great idea for the pups too :)
ReplyDeleteAah, poor guy. JD gets cold when he's wet sometimes; Cookie loves cold weather and just makes her crazier :-) That's her way of keeping warm. We use cold snacks on hot days but never needed warm snacks on cold ones. Not with our guys.
ReplyDeleteI make bone broth for our dogs. They love it and I love it too. I was tempted to make some this weekend, but I need to dehydrate apples - we only have so much counterspace :)
ReplyDeleteI made chicken broth a few weeks ago and Mr. N was like WHERE IS MY SHARE the entire time.
DeleteThat looks yummy! We don't typically warm food, even in the winter. Maybe we would if we lived up north!
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy! NOM NOM!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done that, but it's a great idea! We're headed into pretty cold weather pretty soon, so I'll have to remember to do that.

Weruva makes some really good canned pet foods! I'm definitely a fan. I understand how Mr. N feels, I'm one of those people who is always cold. Warm food is a huge plus during the colder months. I don't usually warm the food for my cats unless the food is really cold. They are pretty happy with room temperature food and a good cuddle afterward. :)

I don't usually warm his normal food but sometimes after walks, he gets super chilled!
DeleteGreat idea, I had to pin this one for future reference. Mary loves warm food, I bet she would love this. Thanks for the share.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pin! Yeah, Mr. N really enjoys it on cold wet days.
DeleteI'm going to serve my dogs next meal warmed up. I bet they will love it! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteMy guys loved this!
ReplyDeleteBarley is the opposite of Mr. N--she lives for chilly snacks in the summer. She is counting down the days until the cold weather is here to stay. On the few chilly days we've had, she's been extra feisty :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes we get the warm stuff, but we don't stay cold for very long unless the weather is super bad!
ReplyDeleteI often boiled a chicken breast or chicken livers from a whole chicken along with some pieces of carrot for my dogs. I retain & save the water to pour over kibble as well, softening it and making a nice gravy. They love this!!
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
I've never given my dogs warm food (they eat kibble), but I will this winter! It is freezing in my house during the winter. They will be so happy that you shared this information.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely - Poppy would adore that!
ReplyDeleteLooks healthy ! We warm up Odin's bone broth when it is cold too :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea warming up the food. Truffle and Brulee love Weruva.
ReplyDeleteWe love the idea of warming up the food and are having to pick at least 3 rotating diets for Shasta. His Yorkie allergies are acting up now that his Cushing's disease (Cortisol levels) are under control!
ReplyDeleteThat bowl is so pretty! It's a good idea to eat warm food to warm up your whole body Mr. N. Hope you stay warm this winter. When I make dehydrated food or add water most of the time I'll use warm water to make it more pleasant than cold food to eat.
ReplyDeletePoor Mr. N! I am glad you discovered this cozy little meal! I bet your weather up in Portland is great right now!
