Golly Gear Review and #Giveaway

Good gear is paramount. It's an added plus if said gear is stylish. Mr. N goes for walks every single day or he's pretty unbearable to live with. He always wears a harness due to small dogs being prone to collapsing trachea.

His regular walking harness is getting worn and shabby. So it was opportune that Golly Gear offered us a harness to review. They are a family-run business that specializes in small dog gear and ten percent of their profit goes towards small dog rescues. The store has all sorts of paraphernalia for small dogs including toys, clothes, beds, treats, harnesses and leashes. Shipping is free over $49 to the US and they have a 30 day return and exchange policy.

Shipping was speedy and the package came with a small bag of bone-shaped dog treats that Mr. N snubbed initially because he's a snob but Sage gobbled down. He did later decide if Sage was eating them, he wanted one too.

Golly Gear specializes in harnesses and they offer a lot of thoughtful advice on how to pick the right one. You can either try their DIY harness picker or fill out a questionnaire for a customized consult. They steered me away from a harness I originally was looking at, saying it would not hold up to what I wanted it to do. I decided on the Choke-Free Shoulder Collar Harness because the color would go with his leash, I prefer leather and the design wouldn't irritate his trachea.

Shopping for small dogs can be a pain sometimes because often things are way too big or I can't find anything in his size. I've ordered toys for Mr. N several times that have turned out to be enormous. I really should order with a ruler in hand... We have a stash of things that are too big for Mr. N that I give away or donate. So I'm glad there's a store that serves this niche.

The harness suits Mr. N's coloring very well and he has good range of motion while wearing the harness and seems to find it comfortable. I would definitely recommend the website (and retail store in IL) if you have a small dog.

  2. That's a cool harness - seems so easy to use. And of course it's very stylish Mr. N.

  3. I'm glad you found a harness that fits him so well! Barley's just so oddly proportioned that it's hard to find things that fit in her neck or chest and shoulders and waist. Luckily, she walks better on a collar than on anything else, so we don't have to worry about finding things that fit too often :)

    1. Luckily, Mr. N fits most standard things his size. He can wear anything from a xxs to a medium, depending on the brand though!

  4. We've never tried a leather harness. It is also hard to fit Bentley in a harness, but both of our boys wear harnesses to walk or else they spend the entire walk gagging themselves! Hahaha!

  5. Great harness! Thanks for the giveaway!

  6. That looks like a nice design. I'd like to find a harness for Rocco that doesn't mat up his fur. This one could work. Looks great on Mr. N!

  7. The Golly Gear harness looks great on Mr. N! I'm glad to hear that they had something that wouldn't bother his trachea .It sounds like they have a lot of variety. I will have to check them out next time my kitties need new harnesses. :)

  12. Mr N steals the show once again -- such a cutie ;) Pretty harness, too! Most important is the fit, with no rubbing or chafing.

  13. That harness looks great, and I love leather too. I prefer to walk all of our dogs with harnesses to reduce strain on their necks. I also feel like it gives me more control.

  16. Oh I liked the look of that harness- Kilo can not wear a collar as pulls like a bandit sometimes (and yes, I have spent many hours reversing direction etc). Would have entered but based in Canada. XS

  22. I like this type of harness that the legs go in first and then you wrap the harness around the body. My dog act like his harness is a punishment .. lol. He really hates it, but he walks so much better with it on.

  24. What a cutie pie! I didn't know that about the trachea in small dogs...I have an 8-year-old Maltese. He doesn't wear a collar often, only when we go on a trip or something, but maybe I need to get him a harness instead! He gets his exercise by playing a game where you act like you're going to "get" him and then he runs around in circles like a crazy thing until he gets thirsty, drinks some water, and then passes out again. That little guy has to have the easiest life in the world, haha!

  34. Harnesses are great with dogs. I have a miniature Schanuzer and we switched to a harness a while ago instead of walking him on a leash with just a collar around his neck.

  36. I love this harness. I know that my little min pin will love it too and it looks solid but yet comfortable. Going to purchase one of these.

  37. My 7lb girl is really difficult to fit. Collars are not ok for taking little dogs for walks. The leash is just too heavy for them to carry around their necks lol She's my first little dog so I've learned so much. I love my spoiled princess :)

  38. I don't have a dog, but my friend will really appreciate this post! Sending her a link :)

  39. I recently received new harnesses for our dogs and I love them. They're easy to fit and adjust, fast to put on, and our dogs look great. If they were front clip harnesses, that would make them perfect. Having four dogs, I look for quality, security, and ease of putting on and adjusting.

Good luck to all of the giveaway entrants. Finding a quality hardness isn't easy so I hope you win this one :)

  40. Oh my goodness, your dog is ADORABLE! My little dog, Dino, has had the same harness for the last 4 years...holy cow, is that really possible?! Anyway, this one looks fantastic--I'm so glad you and Mr. N are happy! :)
